Abstract

Objective: To determine Prevalence and Risk Factors associated with major amputation of the lower limb
per diabetic foot at Hospital Ica, from January 2010 to December 2014. Materials and methods:
Descriptive, retrospective, clinical data review studies are performed. Prevalence, risk factors for lower limb
amputation, was evaluated. Descriptive measurements (frequencies, average, standard deviation) and in the
Chi-square and R Pearson Correlation test association study were used. Results: 58 amputations were
studied in 50 adult carriers of complicated foot. Age 69. 48 years ± 10. 691; minimum50; maximum 93. Sex
28 (56.0%) male, 22 (44.0%) Female. Co-existing diseases: Hypertension 27 (54.0%), Nephropathy 9(18.0%),
Retinopathy 2(4.0%), Peripheral Vascular Disease 4 (8.0%), None 7 (14, 0%). Infected Ulcer: Deep + infection
+ osteomyelitis 13 (26.0%), Necrotizing Gangrene 33 (66.0%), Extensive Gangrene 1(2.0%), Dry Gangrene 3
(6.0%). Severe infections 7 (14.0%), Life-threatening infections 27 (54.0%), Need to rate ischemia 14 (28.0%),
None 2 (4.0%). Vascular Doppler Study: Bilateral Arteriosclerosis to Left Predominance 29 patients (58.0%), Bilateral Arteriosclerosis at rightdomain 10 (20.0%), Non-arteriosclerosis 5 (10.0%), No Doppler 6 (12.0%). Sig. 0.000. Q < 0.05. Foot care education: Poor 15 (30.0%), None 35 (70.0%). Glycosylated hemoglobin data
1(2.0%), No data 49 (98.0%). Conclusions: The prevalence of lower limb amputation per diabetic foot in HR Ica is 21.14 %. Infected ulcer; none or poor foot care education; poor diabetes control and evaluation are the
main factors associated with major amputation.
