Abstract

Objective: To ascertain the characteristics of emergency department (ED) oral disease telediagnosis (EBD)
and user satisfaction, under COVID-19 pandemic confinement. Material and methods: A total of 320
telediagnoses of EBD were performed, using synchronous strategies through virtual means of
communication; the patient consulted the professional by means of a telephone call; signs and symptoms
were collected and photos of the problem area were requested. During the teleconsultation, the
presumptive diagnosis was determined and symptomatic case management was carried out by means of an odontological clinical history. In addition, a satisfaction survey with a Likert-type scale was applied. Results: Of the patients seen, 75% presented a mild emergency severity; in 83.8% of the cases the consultation was 16 to 30 minutes; 40% presented enamel alterations, 32.5% pulpitis, 13.1% gingivitis. The 50.6% were satisfied with the care received. Conclusions: During the COVID-19 confinement, oral diseases such as
enamel alterations and pulpitis occurred more frequently. The level of user satisfaction with the
teleconsultation was adequate.
