Obstetric complications during childbirth in adolescents Attending a Public Hospital in Peru

Objective: To identify the sociodemographic characteristics and obstetric complications during childbirth in adolescents treated at the Santa María del Socorro Hospital in Ica in 2019. Materials and methods: A descriptive, cross-sectional and retrospective study was carried out. From a population made up of 145 adolescents who had complications during childbirth who were treated at a General Hospital in Ica in 2019. Data were collected from medical records, those who met the inclusion criteria entered the study. Results: 95% belonged to late adolescence, were single (51%), had completed high school (59%), lived in urban areas (64%), were dependent (79%), not CPN (51%), primiparous (85%), term births (79%), had dystocic delivery (38%), preeclampsia (24.1%), vulvoperineal tear (16.12%); retention of placental membranes (8.06%), prolonged active phase (11.29%) and prolonged expulsive phase 9 (7.25%). Conclusion: Childbirth in adolescence is a risk factor for presenting an obstetric complication during childbirth.
