Abstract

Objective: To determine the factors associated with operative site infection (OSI) in hip fracture surgery at the Regional Hospital of Ica in the period 2015-2022. Material and Method: An observational, retrospective and cross-sectional study was conducted at the Hospital Regional de Ica - Minsa. The medical records of 122 patients who underwent hip surgery were studied; 46 met the inclusion criteria. SPSS v, 27.0 statistical software was used. Multivariate logistic regression analysis was performed. Results: 43.5 % (20) were treated with osteosynthesis; 34.8 % (16) with total arthroplasty; 19.6 % (09) with partial arthroplasty; and 2.2 % (01) with endomedullary nail. Of the 46 patients studied, 07 cases of ISO (15.2%) were found. In the morbid antecedents, malnutrition was found to be the variable factor associated with operative site infection (ISO) with a p = 0.006. This variable had an OR of 1.231. Of the perioperative factors, body mass index (BMI) was significant in the haemoglobin index in the sample analysed (logistic regression prediction model). However, age (with p = 0.200), is not significant for haemoglobin. Conclusions: The incidence of ISO was 15.2% in hip fracture surgery in the elderly. Malnutrition was the factor associated with ISO. Anaemia (haemoglobin value), has a predictive power for ISO in hip fracture surgery in the elderly.
