Abstract

Objective: To know the manifestations in the oral cavity in patients with COVID-19. Material and method: A review of the literature was carried out using various databases such as PubMed, Scopus, Scielo, and Google Scholar. Search equations were created with terms standardized in the MeSH. The articles were selected according to the previously established inclusion and exclusion criteria and submitted to a consensus by the authors. The selected investigations were reviewed following parameters such as year of publication, authors, manifestations of the oral cavity as determined by COVID-19, and conclusions. Results: 500 articles from all the databases were collected, of which 8 were submitted for evaluation. The studies reported that the oral manifestations of COVID-19 were taste disturbances, erythematous lesions, halitosis, ulcers, erosions, blisters, petechiae, vesiculobullous-type lesions, and plaque-type lesions. In addition, the presence of Herpes simplex type 1 was reported. Conclusions: Patients with COVID-19 repeatedly present ulcerative, erosive, vesiculobullous, and plaque-like lesions. However, more research is needed to confirm a direct connection between reported mucosal lesions and COVID-19.
