Abstract

Objective: To carry out the report and review of the theoretical foundations of a case with Eagle syndrome.
Case presentation: 57-year-old male, ex-smoker, who came to the consultation due to an enlargement of the right side of the face and dysphagia for six months. It also requires headache and pain in the right laterocervical region radiating to the ipsilateral ear, triggered by swallowing and chewing. Physical examination revealed pain on palpation of both tonsillar fossae, and when performing active and passive cervical movement maneuvers. A contrasted CT scan of the head and neck is indicated, with 3D reconstruction; an elongated 104 mm left styloid process is observed,
reaching the hyoid bone and / or calcification of the stylo-hyoid ligament (Eagle syndrome).  Conclusion: Computed Tomography with 3D reconstruction allows more detailed analysis of the radiographic patterns of Eagle syndrome. Even though its presentation is infrequent, it must have as a differential diagnosis in
cases of pain in the maxillofacial region without a clear etiology.
