Manuscripts submitted to the Revista Medica Panacea must be original and unpublished, addressing topics related to the field of Human Health Sciences.

The Revista Medica Panacea supports the clinical trial registration policies of the World Health Organization (WHO) and the International Committee of Medical Journal Editors (ICMJE).   Consequently, clinical trials submitted for publication must be registered and have an identification number in one of the Clinical Trial Registries validated by the criteria established by WHO and ICMJE.  The identification number must be recorded at the end of the abstract.

Revista Medica Panacea does not receive payments from authors for submitting their articles to the editorial process, nor does it receive payments for published articles.

Manuscript Submission

The manuscript must be sent to the Revista Medica Panacea email: panacea@unica.edu.pe, accompanied by a cover letter addressed to the Editor-in-Chief of the Panacea Medical Journal requesting evaluation for publication consideration, which must be signed by the corresponding author. The letter must include the title of the work, the full name of the authors, and their ORCID iDs. Along with the cover letter, the file must be sent in Office Word, which must be fully written according to the guidelines published in the Author Guidelines of the journal.

Types of Articles

The Panacea Medical Journal publishes the following types of articles:

  • Editorial
  • Original Article
  • Short Communication
  • Special Article
  • Review Article
  • Case Report
  • Letter to the Editor

Manuscript Preparation

The article must be written in Spanish or English, in Microsoft Word, on A4 size paper, Times New Roman font, 12-point font size, double-spaced, with 25 mm margins and a single column.

Decimal fractions must be separated from whole numbers with a decimal comma in spanish text, and thousands and millions by a single space. In English text, decimal fractions are separated from whole numbers with a decimal point.

Each part of the article must begin on a separate page. In the case of direct quotations, the corresponding paragraph within the text will be highlighted by placing it in quotation marks or writing it in italics. Editable Excel format tables, graphs and figures with their corresponding titles, are placed at the end of the text after the References section.

First Page

The first page must contain:

  • Article title in Spanish and English.
  • Full name of the author(s).
  • Institutional affiliation of each author.
  • ORCID of each author.
  • Name and email of the Corresponding Author.

The authors' names must be separated by a comma and must follow the following order: First name and paternal surname, then, using superscript Arabic numerals in order, the call to the institution or institutions to which the author is affiliated must be placed, and in superscript letters the call to the highest Title or Academic Degree obtained.

In the next paragraph, the name of the institution or institutions to which the author is affiliated, preceded by the corresponding call number in superscript and then the maximum Academic Degree of each author, with the corresponding call 1 letter in superscript followed by their ORCID.  

For correspondence, the name of the corresponding author and their email address must be placed.

In the authorship contribution, the initials of each author are placed, followed by information on their contribution to the study and writing of the manuscript.

 

Funding and Conflict of Interest Statement

On the second page of the submitted manuscript, the following must be indicated: Funding sources, financial support received in the form of grants, equipment donations, medication contributions, or other types of support, and any potential conflicts of interest of the author(s), whether these are of an economic, institutional, employment, or personal nature.

Article Presentation Formats

Editorial:

Prepared upon invitation by the Editorial Committee, its content will relate to a topic of public interest, or with commentaries on one or more of the articles to be published in the journal issue in which it appears.

 

Original Article:

It must contain the following sections:

  • Title Page
  • Funding and Conflict of Interest Statement
  • Abstract (including DeCS keywords)
  • Abstract (including MeSH keywords)
  • Introduction
  • Materials and Methods
  • Results
  • Discussion
  • References
  • Tables, Graphs, and Figures

The total length of the manuscript, including references, should not exceed 14 single-sided pages, excluding tables, graphs, and figures. A maximum of ten tables, graphs, or figures is accepted; the maximum number of references is 40.

The ABSTRACT and RESUMEN will each be presented on a separate page and with a maximum length of 250 words. They must be written in a single paragraph and include the following subheadings: Objective, Materials and Methods, Results, and Conclusions, and at the end, 3 to 6 keywords should be added to help classify the article, placing the source (DeCS or MeSH) in parentheses.

The INTRODUCTION section should not exceed two double-spaced pages. The study objective is placed at the end of the introduction, in the past tense and in a clear and concise manner.

The RESULTS section should only show the findings found in the study. Only the most relevant data should be shown. The findings are not interpreted or commented on.

The MATERIALS AND METHODS section must contain the type and design, study population, selection criteria, procedures, data management, statistical analysis, and program used. It must be mentioned if the study was reviewed and approved by an Ethics Committee.

The DISCUSSION section should not exceed four double-spaced pages, and the study conclusions are written in the last paragraph.

The REFERENCES section within the text must cite all sources of information consulted during the development of the research work and the writing of the manuscript, and their references in Vancouver style must be in this section.

The tables in editable Excel format, the graphs and figures with their corresponding titles, which must have their call within the corresponding paragraph, are placed at the end of the text after the References section.

 

Short Communication:

It must contain the same sections as an original article.

The total length of the manuscript, including references, should not exceed 6 double-spaced pages, excluding tables, graphs, and figures. A maximum of six tables, graphs, and/or figures are accepted; the maximum number of references is 20.

Case Report:

It must contain the following sections:

  • Title Page
  • Funding and Conflict of Interest Statement
  • Abstract without subheadings
  • Abstract without subheadings
  • Introduction
  • Case Presentation
  • Discussion
  • References
  • Tables, Graphs, and Figures

The total length of the work, including references, should not exceed six double-spaced pages, excluding tables, graphs, and figures. A maximum of six tables, graphs, or figures are accepted; the maximum number of references is 20.

In the introduction section of a case report, the justification and objective of the report are placed in the last paragraph.

The abstracts (in the original language and English) are presented each on a separate sheet, having a maximum length of 150 words and written in a single paragraph. At the end of each abstract, 3 keywords (DeCS) and keywords (MeSH) must be added.

Review Article

Review articles will be prepared by experts in the field invited by the Editorial Committee. They should include a comprehensive, objective, and systematic exploration of current information on a specific topic of interest in health sciences. It has the following structure: unstructured abstract in Spanish and English, keywords in Spanish and English, introduction, body of the article, conclusions, and bibliographic references. The maximum length of the abstract will be 250 words, and 4000 words in the content, a maximum of five figures and/or tables, and seventy bibliographic references.

 

Symposium:

These are a set of structured articles on a topic approved by the RMP Editorial Committee. The topic and orientation of the articles will be coordinated with the Editorial Committee for the issue. It has the following structure: unstructured abstract, keywords, body of the article, and bibliographic references. The maximum length of the abstract is 250 words, and 4000 words in the content, a maximum of four figures and/or tables, and thirty bibliographic references.

Special Article:

This will include articles that fall within the journal's editorial policy but do not fit the characteristics of other sections and are of interest to Health Sciences professionals.

It has the following structure: unstructured abstract in Spanish and English, keywords in Spanish and English, body of the article, and bibliographic references. The maximum length of the abstract is 150 words, and 2500 words in the content, a maximum of three figures and/or tables, and thirty bibliographic references.

Letters to the Editor:

They must contain the following parts:

  • Letter
  • Bibliographic references

The total length of the document should not exceed two double-spaced pages and up to two tables, graphs, or figures are accepted. The maximum number of bibliographic references is 10.

KEYWORDS

Following the abstract in Spanish, keywords must be provided using DeCS terms extracted from the BVS portal: https://pesquisa.bvsalud.org/portal/decs-locator/?lang=es. Following the abstract in English, keywords must be provided using MeSH terms extracted from the MEDLINE portal: https://meshb.nlm.nih.gov/search.

Tables, Graphs, and Figures

Tables, graphs, and/or figures with their corresponding titles should not be inserted within the text. They should be placed at the end of the text, after the REFERENCES section.

Tables must have a brief and clear title and will be numbered according to the order indicated in the text, for example: Table 1, and its callout should be at the end of the text preceding it. The table title should be written in 12-point Times New Roman font.

Tables must be in editable Microsoft Excel format and not as a figure. Only three horizontal lines will be placed: one below the title, another below the column headings, and the third at the end of the table. Vertical lines should not be used. Graphs and tables should not have a border.

Graphs and figures should not have a border. The title of graphs and figures or photos is placed at the bottom and they are numbered in the order mentioned in the results text.

Figures and photos must be submitted in JPG, GIF, or TIF format.

 

From the REFERENCES section:

After using external material in any form, the corresponding bibliographic reference citation(s) must be placed in parentheses, using the same font size and in consecutive order of appearance with an Arabic numeral in parentheses of the same size as the text; example: (1) or (2,5), without hyperlinks.

At the end of the document, a list of bibliographic references cited in the article's text must be provided, in order of appearance. Bibliographic references must be formatted according to the ICMJE (Vancouver) guidelines.

SUBMISSION PREPARATION CHECKLIST

As part of the submission process, authors are required to check that their submission complies with all of the following items. Submissions that do not comply with these guidelines will be returned to the authors.

Articles submitted to the Panacea Medical Journal must be original and unpublished and address topics related to the Health Sciences area.

The article is written in Spanish or English, in ISOA4 format (212x297 mm), Times New Roman font, 12-point font size, double-spaced, with 25 mm margins.

In the Spanish text, decimal fractions are separated from whole numbers with a decimal comma, and thousands and millions with a single space. In the English text, decimal fractions are separated from whole numbers with a period.

Each section of the manuscript begins on a separate page.

If the manuscript is an original article, its total length, including bibliographic references, is no more than 14 single-sided pages, excluding tables, graphs, and figures.

If the manuscript is an original article, it has a maximum of seven tables, graphs, and/or figures; the maximum number of bibliographic references is 40.

If the article type requires an abstract: The abstract and the resumen will each be presented on a separate sheet and with a maximum length of 250 words. They must be written in a single paragraph and include the following subheadings: Objective, material and methods, results, and conclusions, and at the end, 3 to 5 keywords or key words should be added, to help classify the article, placing the source in parentheses (DeCS (BIREME) or Mesh (NLM)).

Calls to the BIBLIOGRAPHIC REFERENCES section are in consecutive numerical order, and the bibliographic references and tables and figures are presented according to the Author Guidelines.
